“The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.” Proverbs 14:1

I have been pondering this verse all day. If you have any insight into what you feel the Lord is speaking to you through this verse, please do share!

The first question I ask myself when reading this verse is, “Am I a wise woman?” Becuase I definitely do not want to be tearing down my own home and family members!

How do we define wisdom? We have been studying this word with our entire study of Proverbs. It is mentioned over and over again.

The dictionary defines wisdom as, knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight.”

We also know that the Bible tells us that God’s wisdom is different from the world’s wisdom; and we definitely want HIS wisdom!!

James 3:17 says that “the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure, then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”

Wow. So, if I am full of God’s wisdom, I am building up my house. If I’m not applying His wisdom to my life, I’m tearing down my own home. This is a very eye opening verse for us, especially as wives and mothers!

Am I pure?
Am I peace loving?
Am I considerate?
Am I submissive?
Am I full of mercy?
Am I bearing good fruit?
Am I impartial?
Am I sincere?

Father, I so desire to be right where You want me to be. I pray earnestly that you would fill us, as mothers, with YOUR wisdom. We are so inundated with how the world views a woman’s place that we often do not have the discernment to truly dig in and find out what YOUR truth is and YOUR plan is for us is. I pray that You would convict me of any of these areas in my own life where I am not measuring up to the wisdom that comes from heaven, as described in James. I pray that You would fill me, through Your Holy Spirit, with purity, peace, consideration for others, submissiveness towards my husband and family, merciful actions and words, good fruit, impartiality and sincerity. Only through Your power and because of Your mercy can I come before You and ask these things. Thank You for hearing my prayers, thank You for loving me so much that You want to bless me with Your wisdom.
